About the Examination
The Royal Mathematics Olympiad (RMO) is widely considered the premier educational event for math enthusiasts from all around the world. It is a highly anticipated event that ignites the imagination of students and provides them with an opportunity to showcase their true potential. The competition is held annually at national levels, drawing from the syllabi provided by various boards such as CBSE, ICSE, ICBSE and other State Boards.
One of the distinctive features of RMO is its emphasis on not just theoretical but also practical knowledge of mathematics. Applied Mathematics forms an integral part of the exam paper, which requires students to apply their knowledge to real-world problems. This enables them to develop critical thinking skills and apply their knowledge in a practical setting.
Furthermore, RMO provides students with a comprehensive report based on their performance in the Olympiad examination. This report offers an in-depth analysis of their strengths and shortcomings, allowing them to identify areas that require improvement. Structure of the Olympiad
Level 1: School Level Examination
All the students of classes 3rd to 12th are eligible to take part in Level 1.
Eligibility for Level 2
Top 1000 Students who rank between 4th and 1003rd in the Olympiad Level 1, across classes 3 to 12, and have secured a minimum of 50% marks, are eligible for Level 2. In addition, Class 1st Rank holders across classes 3 to 12 with minimum 75% marks and 100 participation in the respective subject from the school are eligible.
Who Can Participate
The RMO is open to all school students from Class 3 to Class 12. Separate, age-appropriate question papers are set for each class, so every student is assessed against peers at the same level.

Objective, multiple-choice format. The Achievers Section carries higher weight to distinguish top performers.

Registration is handled through the school. Once your school partners with ROF, the coordinator enrols interested students and shares exam details. Schools can register with us on the School Registration page.
No. There is no negative marking in the RMO, so students are encouraged to attempt every question.
Students need their admit card, a pen or pencil and standard geometry instruments where applicable. Calculators are not permitted.
