About the Examination
The Royal Mathematics Olympiad (RMO) is a national talent examination designed to test and strengthen a student's mathematical foundation. Rather than rewarding rote calculation, RMO challenges students to reason logically, recognise patterns and apply concepts to unfamiliar problems.
From number sense in the early years to algebra, geometry and data handling in the senior classes, the Olympiad grows with the student. It is an ideal preparation ground for future competitive examinations and builds the confidence to tackle challenging problems calmly.
Who Can Participate
The RMO is open to all school students from Class 1 to Class 10. Separate, age-appropriate question papers are set for each class, so every student is assessed against peers at the same level.
- Individual papers for each class from 1 to 10.
- Students register through their school as the nodal centre.
- No qualifying round — every enrolled student may appear.

Objective, multiple-choice format. The Achievers Section carries higher weight to distinguish top performers.

Syllabus by Class Group
Classes 1–2 Foundation
Numbers up to 100, shapes, patterns, measurement, time, money and simple logical sequences.
Classes 3–4 Primary
Four operations, fractions, geometry basics, data handling and everyday word problems.
Class 5 Upper Primary
Factors and multiples, decimals, area and perimeter, symmetry and logical reasoning.
Classes 6–7 Middle
Integers, ratio and proportion, algebraic expressions, mensuration and data interpretation.
Class 8 Middle
Rational numbers, linear equations, quadrilaterals, exponents and graphs.
Classes 9–10 Secondary
Polynomials, coordinate geometry, trigonometry, statistics, probability and problem solving.

Frequently Asked Questions
Registration is handled through the school. Once your school partners with ROF, the coordinator enrols interested students and shares exam details. Schools can register with us on the School Registration page.
No. There is no negative marking in the RMO, so students are encouraged to attempt every question.
Students need their admit card, a pen or pencil and standard geometry instruments where applicable. Calculators are not permitted.
